Viking Range Repair
A Viking range in a Wellesley kitchen gets heavy weeknight use, and the parts that wear first are the ones that move - igniters, gas valves, hinges and door springs. We diagnose the gas side and the electrical side separately so the answer is not a guess.
01 symptom against test
What you describe, and what gets measured
| How it is described | What we test for it |
|---|---|
| Oven taking the better part of an hour to reach temperature | Manifold pressure at the regulator, taken hot and cold |
| Burners lighting with a lazy yellow flame | Spark module output and the flame-sense return on every burner |
| Smell of gas when a knob is first turned | Burner port pattern and cap seating, head by head |
| Control knobs stiff, or spinning without engaging | Door hinge tension and spring travel, since a sagging door changes everything above it |
02 the money $95 to look
What moves the number
We do not publish repair prices. A figure printed on a web page is a figure nobody arrived at by looking at your appliance, and quoting one would only mean revising it on the doorstep. Four things decide the total, all four are known by the end of the diagnosis, and you hear it then.
| Repair | From | To |
|---|---|---|
| Igniter or burner assembly | $270 | $650 |
| Oven thermostat or heating element | $230 | $740 |
| Control board or touch panel | $390 | $920 |
| Dishwasher pump or control | $300 | $1,300 |
| Refrigeration fan or defrost system | $300 | $710 |
| Compressor or sealed-system repair | $1,160 | $2,420 |
Flat $95 service call covering the visit and full diagnosis, credited against the repair once you approve it.
- Which part
- A burner cap and a control board are not the same repair, and the diagnosis is what tells them apart.
- Access
- A slide-in range pulls forward in minutes. A built-in behind cabinet panels does not.
- Availability
- A current part arrives quickly. An older one may have to be sourced, and that changes the schedule as well as the cost.
- How long it ran
- An appliance run hard with a known fault often has a second thing to find, and it is cheaper to hear about it now.

Smell of gas whenever a front knob was first turned. He found a cracked orifice fitting under the burner box and shut the whole thing down until the part landed. Careful, and he never talked down to me.

Door springs had gone and the door hung open by a finger width, which explained our endless preheats. New springs and hinges, fresh seal, and the difference in how it bakes was immediate.

Two burners were lighting with a lazy yellow flame in our rear addition kitchen. The ports were clogged with years of spillover. Full strip and clean, and he set the air shutters properly afterwards.
