A pro range is a working tool. It should be serviced like one.
Ranges, wall ovens, built-in refrigeration and panel-front dishwashers, across Wellesley. The gas side and the electrical side get tested separately, the reading decides the part, and the total is on the table before anything comes apart.
$95 service call — the visit and the full diagnosis, credited against the repair.
01 where we work Wellesley MA
Four parts of one town, and they are not the same job
Street by street, the kitchens here were built and rebuilt at different moments, and that decides how an appliance comes out long before it decides what is wrong with it.
-
Poet's Corner Streets named for Longfellow, Whittier and Bryant, lined with 1920s and 1930s colonials on narrow, tree-shaded lots. Most back kitchens have been opened into the dining room, with the range moved to a new island or a rebuilt exterior wall. -
Wellesley Hills Large shingle-style and Tudor houses on the wooded slopes north of Route 9, most of them a century old with kitchens rebuilt in the last twenty years. Pro ranges here usually sit in a rear addition with island seating and a separate prep zone. -
Wellesley Square Close-set colonials and capes within walking distance of Linden Street and the college, on modest lots with detached garages. Kitchens are compact, so a 30- or 36-inch range and a panel-front dishwasher have to work in one tight run of cabinets. -
Babson Park The pocket around Babson College near the Needham line, mixing 1920s houses with post-war and faculty-era homes. Kitchens tend to be galley or single-wall layouts where the range sits directly under an exterior-vented hood.
02 what we service four appliances
The four we carry parts for
-
Viking Range Repair
A Viking range in a Wellesley kitchen gets heavy weeknight use, and the parts that wear first are the ones that move - igniters, gas valves, hinges and door springs. We diagnose the gas side and the electrical side separately so the answer is not a guess.
- Oven taking the better part of an hour to reach temperature
- Burners lighting with a lazy yellow flame
- Smell of gas when a knob is first turned
- Control knobs stiff, or spinning without engaging
-
Viking Oven Repair
Double wall ovens are common in this town, and the lower cavity usually fails first because it does the most work. We test the sensor, the elements and the relay board before deciding what actually needs replacing.
- Lower oven dead while the upper one still works
- Convection fan running but the cavity staying cold
- Display frozen or unresponsive to touch
- Broil element glowing at one end only
-
Viking Refrigerator Repair
Wellesley kitchens often hide a full-height Viking built-in behind cabinet panels, which makes condenser access and airflow the first things worth checking. We pull and clean before anyone starts talking about a compressor.
- Refrigerator section warm while the freezer stays cold
- Frost forming at the back of the fresh food compartment
- Unit noticeably louder than it used to be
- Door alarm sounding with the door properly shut
-
Viking Dishwasher Repair
Panel-ready Viking dishwashers set into island cabinetry are prone to inlet and drain faults that first show up as water under the floor of the cabinet. We trace the water path end to end and check the door seal and latch alignment.
- Water on the floor at the front of the unit
- Detergent door not opening during the cycle
- Long cycles that never finish
- Filter or spray arm clogging again within weeks

Questions that come up before we are booked
The oven takes forever to come up to temperature. Is that the element or the sensor?
It is worth knowing which before anyone buys either. A sensor that has drifted reports the cavity as hotter than it is, so the oven cuts the heat early and never quite arrives; a weak element heats honestly but slowly. The two are told apart with a resistance reading on the sensor at room temperature and a logged preheat against a separate probe, and that takes about fifteen minutes.
One burner lights with a yellow, lazy flame. Everything else is fine.
A single burner behaving differently from its neighbours is almost never a supply problem, because they share the supply. It is usually the port pattern — food debris or a shifted burner cap changing how air mixes at the head. Cleaning the ports and reseating the cap fixes most of them. If the yellow flame is across every burner at once, that is a different question and worth a pressure check.
What does the visit cost?
One flat service call fee, charged once, covering the trip and the full diagnosis. It is credited against the repair if you approve it. Parts and labour are quoted on top before any work starts, and you are free to say no at that point having paid only the call.
The lower oven of our double wall oven is dead and the upper one is fine.
That is the common pattern, and it is not a coincidence: the lower cavity does most of the work in most houses. The usual candidates are the bake element, the relay on the control board that switches it, and the wiring at the back of the lower cavity where heat has been cycling through a connector for years. All three are testable, and only one of them is expensive.
There is water under the dishwasher cabinet but the dishwasher looks dry.
Water appears at the front of the cabinet a long way from where it left the machine. The inlet valve, the drain hose clamp, the sump gasket and the door seal all drain forward along the floor of the cabinet. We trace the water path from the supply through to the standpipe rather than replacing the part nearest the puddle.
Do you work on the built-in refrigeration as well as the cooking side?
Yes. A great many kitchens here were fitted out in one go, so the range and the refrigerator came from the same order and reach the same age at the same time. If you are booking one, it is worth mentioning the other — reading both on a single visit costs one service call rather than two.
04 who you are calling independent
Independent, and specific about it
We are not appointed by Viking and we do not claim to be. What we are is a shop that works on this equipment constantly, in a town where a great many kitchens have it, and that is a different kind of qualification: a 36-inch sealed-burner range behaves the way it behaves whoever signs the paperwork.
Practically, independence means two things. We buy factory-approved parts and fit them, and where a fault is properly a matter for the manufacturer under their own terms, we will tell you so and point you at them rather than charging you to find out.
- Factory-approved parts, fitted and recorded
- The gas side and the electrical side tested apart
- A total quoted before the appliance comes apart
- A plain answer when a repair is the wrong spend

Ice was building at the back of the fresh food section and dripping onto the shelf underneath. Blocked drain plus a split evaporator cover. He cleared it, sealed the cover, and wiped everything down.

Lower cavity of the double wall unit was dead while the upper one carried on working. The relay board had a burned trace. He photographed it and showed me before ordering, which nobody has done before.

It filled but would not drain and threw a code we could not find in the book. Chopped glass had jammed the impeller. Cleared, pump checked, kitchen left spotless.

05 service notes written after the call
What the symptom usually turns out to be
All service notes- Viking Burner Clicks but Will Not Light: A Wellesley Walkthrough A burner that clicks without catching, and one that lights with a lazy orange flame, usually share a single cause: the air-to-gas mixture at the head. Check cap seating and blocked ports first, then look at where the spark is actually landing. 5 min
- Viking Dishwasher Not Draining in Wellesley: Work Back From the Sump A dishwasher that has never emptied properly usually has an installation fault rather than a failed pump: a lost high loop, a crushed hose, or a disposer knockout still blanking the branch. A wet sump is normal; water across the tub floor is not. 6 min
- Viking Oven Door Locked After Self-Clean: A Wellesley Walkthrough The door stays locked until the control sees the cavity fall below a set temperature, which happens long after the heat stops, so a long wait is normal rather than a fault. The week before a holiday is the worst possible time to discover that. 6 min
